Norfolk & Norwich Festival

  • Norwich Guildhall Balcony Guildhall Hill Norwich, England, NR2 1JS United Kingdom (map)

My fanfare Procession of Life – commissioned to mark the 250th anniversary of the Norfolk & Norwich Festival – will be performed from the balcony of the Norwich Guildhall during the opening weekend, at 2pm on Saturday and 3pm on Sunday.

The fanfare was inspired by the incredible archaeological discoveries in Norfolk that have given us insights into our deep history, and features four trumpets and vibraslap (an instrument descended from real animal jawbones). It also references the “Jubilate Deo” by Norwich Cathedral organist Thomas Garland, which was heard at the early festivals in the 1700s but has since been forgotten, languishing as a manuscript in the Rowe Library.
