Rockerilla: Subterranea

James Batty is a young British composer making his recording debut with album Sanctuary (Overtones and Deviations). Three months of recording to bring together an aesthetic that is only formally linked to the world of academia: a 16-tone scale in place of the Western 12-tone one; a prepared piano that frequently plunges you into a pool of electronics to open doors of unknown dimensions. Batty plays fragments of melodies like balls of yarn that strings of notes unravel from and get lost in desolate spaces. Prizes and awards (BBC and SPNM) have already opened the doors of TV and cinema to this talented London composer. TO SAVOUR OVER TIME.
